Green Screen Analysis

Rihanna digipak analysis

Automatically the genre of this digipak is evident through the use of the colour. The use of flowers both on the digipak and on the actual compact disk conveys a very girly and feminine theme to the digipak. The fact that the flowers in the digipak are red roses could suggest romance and seduction.

This is further supported by the fact that Rihanna is strewn across the flower bed with the outline of her body on show, showing her feminity. Her body, however, is not completely exposed; with the roses covering her cleavage and her legs covered by a big netted skirt (which could resemble a ballerina - dainty). Her only skin on show is her arms and neck area, which aren't sexualised parts of the body. Her clothing is white; which can suggest innocence and purity, contrasts with her red hair; which has the connotations of seduction and promiscuity could show that the artist has two sides to her personality and this may come across in her music.  The colour red is a theme that runs throughout the digipak with the actual artist's hair and lips coloured red.

The fact that the artist is not looking directly at the camera on the front cover, could suggest that she has a hidden side to her personality. Her expression is quite hard compared to the gentle soft expression she has on her face in the other image. The typography is white and very thin. It goes well with the soft feel of the digipak, however it contrasts with the name 'loud'. Throughout, the album has lots of contrasts between soft and girly to quite hard and serious. As I said before this could be a theme that runs across in her music, hence making listeners want to buy the album.

Goodwin Analysis - David Guetta She Wolf

Immediately a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals is developed. When the lyric 'Like a wolf, a predator' is sung a close shot of the wolf running is shown

Again a relationship between the visuals and lyrics is created with the lyric 'you hunted me down' and then a bloody knife is shown suggesting that the wolf is being hunted by someone.
This is apparent again. Before this shot the lyric falling to pieces is sung and then when the beat drops the people are smashed into tiny pieces.
The music and visuals have a relationship and the pulsing of the landscape corresponds to the beat of the music.
The name of the song 'She Wolf' corresponds to the video well as at the end it is discovered that the wolf that has been seen throughout the video is in fact a woman too as the wolf transforms into a woman.

Other features of this video that come under goodwins analysis is the fact that the artist does not appear in the video at all which is a convention of dance music. It shows that the appearance of David Guetta is not a main selling point for him, it's his music and creativity shown in his videos.

We have been given the task to make a video of us individually analysing a digipak in detail. I have chosen three options; Mumford and Sons, Madonna and Rihanna. I will then decide on my favourite one to analyse for the video next week.

name audience response

this is the response we got from audiences. 60% of our responses chose Scott Garcia and the other names either got no votes or 20% of the votes. Going with our own instincts and based on this response we are going to choose Scott Garcia as our Dance act's name.

Brief - Dance Genre

In the lesson we were given a number of briefs to choose from, from all different genres of music. The one that we have decided to choose is 'Magma', which is under the dance genre. Commonly in the dance genre the music videos are quite creative and interesting and liked this idea as we wanted to make our video creative and quite unique. We all enjoy the genre so we already had an idea of what dance music videos entailed and therefore knew what sort of image we wanted to create. We decided that we were going to change parts of the Brief as we wanted to call the artist something different and had a different song in mind to the ones on the sheet. So we will be making some adaptations to the brief to make it exactly into how we want our artist to be portrayed

Name Survey

I created a survey asking audiences what they thought we should call our dance act. We put down various names; we knew we wanted him to have mexican roots, hence us picking names that sort of reflected this but also ones that we felt would be relevant to our chosen genre.

Spider Diagramming our ideas

We had to present to the class the beginnings of our idea and so we noted down all of our initial thoughts on what we were going to do. This is the spider diagram of what we came up with; the video idea, genre, song choices, the look etc to give the class and the teacher an insight into our idea
